The focus of this post is on for what jobs/posts RRB exams are conducted, what are the salaries offered and what are the eligibilities to appear for various posts in RRB exams.
But before that, let us know more about Indian railway service classes.
The management cadre of Indian railway consists of Class-I & Class-II Gazetted officers. They are recruited through various UPSC Civil Services exams.
Class III service of Indian railway is composed of literate skilled employees, in both technical and non-technical departments.
Technical Class III services (Engineering, Signaling, Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical departments etc.) are of two types: First type are the Supervisors, Chargemen, Assistant Inspectors of Ways and Works, Assistant Signaling and Telecommunication Inspectors, etc. They are recruited from candidates having diploma qualification in the relevant Engineering branches.Second types are the skilled tradesmen. They are recruited from trade apprentice.
The recruitment of non-technical Class III services i.e., Clerks, Assistant Station Masters, Ticket Collectors, Train Clerks, etc., is done through Railway Recruitment Board exams and is the subject matter of this post.

Pay Scale/Eligibility for Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 4500-7000.
Eligibility: Age: 18-33
Min. Qualification: Graduation from any recognized University.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Sr. Clerk cum Typist (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 4500-7000.
Eligibility: Age: 18-33
Min. Qualification: Graduate with minimum 50 % aggregate marks and typing speed in Hindi 25 WPM or English 30 WPM. Minimum marks not necessary for SC/ST.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for ASM (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 4500-7000.
Eligibility: Age: 18-33
Min. Qualification: A university degree or its equivalent. Diploma in Rail Transport and Management from the institute of Rail Transport will be an additional desirable qualification.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Ticket Collector (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 3050-4590.
Eligibility: Age: 18-30
Min. Qualification: Matriculation or its equivalent examination with minimum 50 % marks in aggregate. Minimum marks not necessary for SC/ST.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Clerk Cum Typist (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 3050-4590.
Eligibility: Age: 18-30
Min. Qualification: Matriculation or its equivalent examination with minimum 50 % marks in aggregate and qualifying type test Hindi 25 WPM or English 30 WPM. Minimum marks not necessary for SC/ST.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Shroff (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 3050-4590.
Eligibility: Age: 18-30
Min. Qualification: Matriculation & one year of experience dealing with cash (Certificate).
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Stenographer (Hindi) (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 4000-6000.
Eligibility: Age: 18-30
Min. Qualification: Matriculation plus Shorthand in Hindi (80 WPM duration time 10 minutes) Transcription time 75 Minutes.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Assistant Loco Pilot (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 3050-4590.
Eligibility: Age: 18-30Min.
Qualification: Matriculation pass plus ITI in specified trades/Act Apprenticeship or Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Automobile Engineering in lieu of ITI.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for PGT (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 6500-10500.
Eligibility: Age: 20-45
Min. Qualification: i) IInd class Master Degree in teaching subject (Chemistry)
ii) University Degree or diploma in Education/Teaching or Integrated two years Post Graduate Course of regional colleges of Education of NCERT
Pay Scale/Eligibility for TGT (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 5500-9000.
Eligibility: Age: 20-45
Min. Qualification: IInd Class Bachelor's Degree.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for School Teacher (English Medium) (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 4500-7000.
Eligibility: Age: 20-45Min.
Qualification: Higher Secondary with JBT (2 years) or equivalent OR Intermediate with JBT (1st Year) or its equivalent OR Sr. Secondary (plus 2) examination with JBT (1st Year) or its equivalent.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Section Engineer (P. Way, Works) (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 6500-10500.
Eligibility: Age: 20-35
Min. Qualification: Degree in Civil Engineering.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Jr. Engineer-II (P. Way/ Works/ Elect.) (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 5000-8000.
Eligibility: Age: 18-33 years
Min. Qualification: Diploma in Civil/Electrical/Electronics & Telecommunications / Electronics / Electrical Power Systems / Electronics & Communications / Electronics & Video Engineering/Instrumentation & Control / Industrial Electronics / Mechanical / Production / Production Technology / Industrial Engineering.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Goods Guard (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 4500-7000.
Eligibility: Age: 18-33
Min. Qualification: Graduation from any recognized university. Diploma in Rail Transport Institute, New Delhi will be an additional desirable qualification.
Pay Scale/Eligibility for Asst. Commercial Clerk (RRB Exam):
Pay Scale: Rs. 3200-4900.
Eligibility: Age: 18-30
Min. Qualification: Matriculation or its equivalent examination with minimum 50 % marks in aggregate. Minimum marks not necessary for SC/ST. Also minimum marks not necessary for those with qualification higher than matriculation.
