This blog post is a part of my effort to bring to you study materials for preparing for the RRB exams. If you had not gone through my previous blog post: Sample Paper/Recommended books for RRB exam, may be you would go through it and find the materials useful.
This post focuses on the Online RRB exams--Where and how to appear.
At first some background on the RRB online exams:
The first on-line RRB exam dates back to September 11, 2005 which was held at BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, conducted by RRB Bangalore for the selection of Section Engineers. Since from than on-line RRB exams have been held a number of times successfully. The advantages of online RRB exams over traditional RRB exams are many and hence almost all RRB have accepted this system.
How does a RRB guideline on Online RRB exam looks like?
For your information, I am reproducing in replica (without any editing) following content from RRB Bangalore website:
INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
Candidates should report to the venue of the examination with their Call letter for verification of identity at the reporting time mentioned in the Call letter. Candidates will not be permitted for the examination without production of the Call letter.
1. Candidates should sign on the call letter in the presence of the invigilator in the space provided.
2. In the unlikely event of printing a wrong photograph in the call letter, please approach RRB with a spare photo two days prior to the date of examination.
3. The original foil of Call letter should be surrendered to the Invigilator. Candidate should retain only the counter foil portion.
4. No candidate will be admitted to the examination hall after 10 minutes of their Examination time nor will they be allowed to leave the hall until the completion of the examination. After leaving the hall, they will not be allowed to re-enter.
5. No separate question book / answer sheet will be issued.
6. The examination will be on computer. Only mouse operation will be active.
7. The question paper will be generally in English language only.
8. There will be a practice session for 10 minutes before the main examination. Candidate should read the instructions displayed on the computer screen carefully before logging on to Question Paper.
9. Examination will be of 90 minutes duration with 100 questions to be answered.
10. Candidates have the options like ‘Attempt later’, which will help to utilize the time allotted judiciously.
11. There will be four alternative answers to each question. Candidate can select the right answer by mouse click and click on to next question and so on.
12. Every wrong answer will carry negative 1/3 mark.
13. Candidates will be issued with working sheet for any manual calculations / working.
14. Calculators, Slide rules, Log tables, mobile phones are strictly prohibited.
15. A candidate who finishes the exam before time shall leave the hall only after completion of the examination session.
16. SC/ST Candidates should sign on the “AUTHORITY TO TRAVEL” before commencing journey.
17. Any failure to comply with the instructions will entail cancellation of candidature of the individual.
18. Document verification for the successful candidates will be scheduled on 27/08/08 at RRB Office, No.18, Miller’s Road, Bangalore-560046.
19. The candidates are required to bring the originals of all academic records at the time of document verification.
20. SC/ST/OBC candidates shall bring originals of the caste certificates enclosed with the application (including the latest caste certificate in case of OBC candidates) at the time of document verification.
21. In the case of unforeseen problems beyond the control of RRB and Institution, exams may be spilled over to next day. Hence the candidates should come prepared to stay from commencement of examination till the examination is over.
With above instructions, let us go onto appear the Online RRB demo exam practically now:
1.0 First click here to appear on Online RRB demo exam.
2.0 You would see a screen with button at bottom right as shown below:
3.0 Following screen pops-up:
Here enter the Roll Number as 14000000000001 and PASSWORD as RRB as shown and click button LOGIN.
4.0 Following screen comes up in which you need to enter your own name and click "SUBMIT"
Following this, a page is displayed showing the instructions about Online RRB exam. Read the content and Click “Start Practice Test” button at the bottom of that page.
5.0 The first question of the Online RRB demo exam appears in your screen.
You have four option buttons at bottom right of each question:
i) You can choose the correct answer and click “Next” to go for next question.
ii) You can click “Attempt later” to leave the question unanswered, so that you can go to next question and attempt it later.
iii) You can also go to previous question by clicking “Previous”.
iv) You can choose to end the test by clicking “Close Test”
You would have 100 online RRB exam questions, each with four answer options from which you need to select the correct answer option. These 100 questions needs to be answered in 90 minutes. And each wrong answer will carry negative 1/3 mark.
So go ahead now and appear in the Online RRB demo exam...
